Our 11th Anniversary Hobo Brew, The Most Interesting Hobo, is set to be released on Saturday, May 18th!
In the 1800’s, the original Ahnapee Brewery had a train track behind it which was likely a hot spot for hobo’s traveling the country to take a little break. That train track likely heard many colorful tales and probably saw a lot of different people.
We continue with that train of thought (pun intended), and create a different Hobo brew every year to commemorate our anniversary! This year’s Hobo Brew is called “The Most Interesting Hobo” and is a Imperial Stout aged in Templeton Corralejo Tequila Cask Finished Rye Whiskey Barrels. What does that mean? Well…
The barrels first aged an extra añejo tequila for at least three years. Then, the folks in Templeton, Iowa, got their hands on them to finish a 95% rye, 5% malted barley rye whiskey in the same barrels. The barrels absorbed sweet agave notes and are now accompanied by spicy rye notes. We got our hands on them and then we aged our 9.75% Imperial Stout in them for 7 months! The result is one of the most interesting barrel aged beers we have ever made! Look for the release in bottles and on draft on May 18th at both taprooms!
